ENGEN - Company news

The ENGEN company has completed the next stage of work to ensure the power supply of key substations for the Malmyzh copper project in Khabarovsk Krai

ENGEN LLC regularly cooperates with the operator of the Malmyzh copper project, Amur Minerals LLC, in the matters of electric power supply to the mining and processing plant (hereinafter referred to as the MPP) under construction in Khabarovsk Krai. The completion of the work has brought the project one step toward implementation. This project will become a landmark for the entire Far East and the industry as a whole, it will reinforce the stand of the domestic non-ferrous metallurgy, help attract investments to the region, ensure the construction of infrastructure and the development of all sectors of the economy.
The contract between Amur Minerals and ENGEN provided for the supply, installation and commissioning of busbars providing electricity supply to the MPP. Now, the electric power is supplied to the 500 kV Taezhnaya substation, equipped with cast busbars of 1600 to 5000 A, passes through the busbars to the high-voltage equipment and then through two overhead lines, crossing the Amur River, and arrives at the 220 kV Malmyzh substation.

The policy of the ENGEN company provides for cooperation with the best representatives in their production areas. In accordance with the company policy, a domestic company with the greatest experience and history in the industry was selected as the manufacturer: RTK-ELEKTRO-M LLC. This approach did not prevent the project cost from being maintained at the market level. In the course of the tender, the offer from the ENGEN company was the minimum in terms of price and lead time.
It is important to note the difficult working conditions. They were caused by the onset of the autumn-winter season and the climatic features of Khabarovsk Krai. The cast busbar installation technology requires the use of a special compound as insulation. The ENGEN company provided for the use of a special technique – the construction of special tents with heaters that allow maintaining the necessary temperature for casting the compound, drying and cooling the materials.

The progress of the work and strict adherence to the installation technology were controlled by the engineering supervisor of the manufacturer.

All activities were completed two months ahead of the deadline specified in the contract. The warranty obligations for this project will be 60 months for the equipment from the commissioning date and 24 months for the work performed. Today, all the stages of the process have been completed, the launch of the 500 kV Tayezhnaya substation has been approved by the officers of the Federal Grid Company and the substation has been energized.

For the 220 kV Malmyzh substation project, ENGEN proposed an alternative technical solution: installation of a substation power supply system based on air-insulated busbars in an aluminum housing from 4000 to 8000 A. This approach allowed the customer to save significant funds and became the most appropriate in terms of the feasibility of installation work at any temperature and in almost any weather conditions. Another advantage of such equipment was its high maintainability.

The manufacturer of air-insulated busbars in an aluminum housing, MosElektroShchit OJSC, is a trusted partner of ENGEN LLC: the project of power supply to the MPP in the Chelyabinsk Region was implemented in partnership with this company. This is an enterprise with a huge history, which developed busbars and began to introduce them into industrial operation in the days of the Soviet Union.

In this case, the contractual obligations regarding the work performance were fulfilled ahead of schedule again. The 5.5 months provided for in the contract were actually reduced to 4.5 months.

At present, after the commissioning of the 500 kV Tayezhnaya substation and the 220 kV Malmyzh substation, ENGEN is in the final stages of commissioning of the 35/10 kV Dolina substation, the 35/10 kV Severnoye Tailings Storage Facility and the 35/10 kV Tsentralniy substation. Moreover, in summer 2024, the construction of the MPP gas genset was started, which will break another record in terms of generated power.
