As part of the implementation of its projects, the Engen company has purchased 53 gas gensets manufactured by the Chinese brand Jichai, making it the largest partner of the plant in this market segment throughout its history. In addition to the supply of equipment, the agreement with the manufacturer provides for the establishment of spare parts warehouses in Russia, as well as professional training for Engen employees. Upon successful completion of training at the manufacturer's factory in China, Engen's technicians will receive certificates with the appropriate authorization levels to perform commissioning, operation, maintenance, and all types of repairs. Engen's staff will be qualified to work with Jichai equipment not only in Russia but also in other countries.
The need for reliable and uninterrupted power supply for industrial facilities under sanctions requires a meticulous approach to the selection of substitute products. In this context, Engen has decided to conduct a thorough analysis of manufacturers in the Chinese market when choosing a supplier. China’s lack of natural gas reserves comparable to Russia’s ones has shaped the market conditions for local companies, which specialize to a greater extent in the production of diesel engines and gas units with capacities not exceeding 1 MW. Low-power engines traditionally operate on associated gas, coke gas, or biogas. As a result, the primary objective was to identify leading manufacturing enterprises in this industry that are capable of implementing a large-scale project in the Russian Federation.
The gas gensets by Jichai with a capacity of 1.8 MW were identified as the appropriate solution, with their reliability and efficiency confirmed by successful operation at existing facilities. The gas gensets by Jichai are mainly available in Singapore, Indonesia, Nigeria and other Asian and African markets, and the company has also had some experience in equipment supplies to Russia.
At the end of February 2023, Engen and Jichai signed a cooperation agreement. This was followed by a technical agreement approving the concept and requirements for the supplied products based on many years of Engen's experience in the Russian market. It will serve as the basis for technical specifications, some of which relate to the supply of modular design sets, and others to those mounted on the frame for capital construction projects.
The collaboration between Engen's experts and the manufacturer has ensured the adaptation of the equipment to regions with moderate and cold climates. Additional thermal insulation, heating systems, and other accessories have been provided for the engines.
Gas gensetes by Jichai will be a reliable source of electricity and heat. The first batch of equipment will be shipped in March 2024, each subsequent batch will be shipped 1 month after the previous one. The equipment will be delivered to the sites within 7 months.
